Arctic and Antarctic sea ice variability and changes over the last decades

Description

Hindcast simulations are performed with the NEMO-LIM global ice-ocean general circulation model to investigate the Arctic and Antarctic sea ice variability and changes over the last decades. In those simulations, that are conducted at 2°, 1° or 0.5° resolution with or without data assimilation, NEMO-LIM is driven by atmospheric reanalysis daily data.

Time series of monthly sea ice extent anomaly over 1979-2006 as simulated by NEMO-LIM3 (2° resolution, no data assimilation ; orange curve) and as observed (NSIDC ; black curve) for the Northern Hemisphere (2° resolution ; no data assimilation). The lines of linear least squares fit through the monthly anomalies are also plotted.
