- Using a model similar to the one described in section 2.1.2, derive the
relation between Te and Ts for an arbitrary number n of atmospheric layers in radiative equilibrium,
each having an emissivity of 1.
- Using the information provided in section 2.1.3, compute the length of the various seasons.
- Demonstrate Eq. 2.19.
- Compute the temperature that would occur at the pole and the equator if the incoming radiation were
the same as presently observed on Earth but there was no heat transport.
- On the basis of the transport of water by the thermohaline circulation and of the
temperature of the different water masses, estimate the amount of heat transported by the thermohaline circulation.
