Dr Didier Fussen Head of Department Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy (BIRA-IASB)
|
Dr. Didier FUSSEN (age 53), Head of Department, is the leader of the
Limb Remote Sounding group at the Belgian Institute for Space
Aeronomy. He joined this federal scientific institute in 1988 after a
PhD degree in Atomic Physics at the "Université Catholique de Louvain".
He has a large experience in numerical analysis and in the field of
algorithm development for inversion problems related to remote sensing
of the atmosphere by limb occultation experiments. He has been working
on the data processing of the ORA experiment and on the development of
retrieval schemes for the GOMOS experiment ( as ‘Expert Support
Laboratory’ and as member of the Science Advisory Group) as well as for
the ACE/MAESTRO experiment. He is also interested in all theoretical
questions related to spectral and vertical inversion problems.
He is presently the Principal Investigator of ALTIUS, a remote
sensing instrument to be embarked on board a micro-satellite to perform
atmospheric limb imaging in the UV-Vis-NIR domain.
He is the author or co-author of about 95 scientific papers in
international scientific journals with peer-review and has been
involved in about 40 scientific projects. Since 2010, he is also member
of the SE-4 and FORESIGHT national scientific commissions (FNRS).
